Comtrol / Enterasys Networks Introduce First Wireless Serial Hub SolutionOffering Industry-Leading RocketPort® Serial Hubs With Award-Winning RoamAbout® WLAN TechnologyMinneapolis, MN & Rochester, NH — Monday, October 01, 2001 … Comtrol Corporation and Enterasys Networks announced today that they have bundled their serial device connectivity and wireless LAN products to provide seamless connectivity solutions. The pre-tested, bundled products are available immediately from Ingram Micro and, if purchased together, save customers as much as 16 percent over purchasing each product separately. The Comtrol products included in the bundled solution are the popular RocketPort Serial Hub line of Ethernet-attached device servers that connect from 2 to 8 serial devices per unit, making the devices transparently accessible to Microsoft® Windows® and Linux applications running on network-connected host servers. And, while not included in the bundle, Comtrol’s new DeviceMaster line of programmable and non-programmable device and application servers offer equal interoperability with the Enterasys WLAN products. The Enterasys products included in the bundled solution are the RoamAbout AP 2000 Access Point, PCMCIA card, and Ethernet Adapter, which connects to the RocketPort Serial Hub, providing wireless connectivity between the serial hub and the Ethernet local-area network. The combined solution enables connectivity of serial devices in locations that are mobile or difficult to hard wire. MACDAC Engineering, a leading provider of DNC machine tools systems, has successfully implemented the new bundled offering. "We are long-term users of the RocketPort Serial Hub, and when we learned that we could combine it with the Enterasys RoamAbout product, we knew it would be a hit with our customers because they often need the flexibility that wireless networking provides," remarked John Carpenter, Communications Manager of MACDAC. "Last spring we implemented our first system using these products and are very pleased with the results!" The Comtrol / Enterasys Networks offering is available immediately from Ingram Micro.
